King Rama V, also known as Chulalongkorn (1853-1910), was the fifth monarch of Siam (now Thailand) under the Chakri Dynasty. Ascending to the throne in 1868, his reign was marked by modernization and reform. Rama V abolished slavery, introduced Western-style education, and restructured the administration, military, and judiciary systems. Known for his diplomatic prowess, he skillfully navigated the colonial pressures of the era, preserving Siam's sovereignty while fostering international relations. His progressive reign, which lasted 42 years, is remembered for transforming the Kingdom of Siam into a modern nation and earning him the title of "The Great Beloved King."
