Acrylic on canvas

Acrylic on canvas is a painting technique in which acrylic paint is applied to a stretched canvas. This technique is relatively modern, emerging in the mid-20th century as an alternative to oil paint. Unlike oil paints, acrylic paints dry quickly, allowing artists to layer colors more easily and create quick, expressive brushstrokes.

Acrylic on canvas became increasingly popular in the 1960s and 1970s, as artists began to experiment with new materials and techniques. It is now one of the most widely used painting techniques in contemporary art.

Some iconic artworks created using acrylic on canvas include:
  • "One" by Jackson Pollock
  • "Target" by Jasper Johns
  • "Drowning Girl" by Roy Lichtenstein.

Other notable artists who specialize in this technique include Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter, and David Hockney.
